Used to replace the Heat Management Module on a BMW B48D engine and retrofit to a more standard thermostat when running a stand alone engine management system like our Motec B48 M122 Kit. Information will be included in our plumbing and best practices diagram. 

Includes:

  • CNC Thermostat Retrofit Plate
  • Installation hardware
  • BMW factory gaskets 11539468022 and 11539468021

This plate is used in conjunction with any type of stand alone thermostat but here is what we have used:

  • 11537549476 from a BMW N52 - this one has an extra port to be used if you want to retain the HVAC heater. This thermostat opens on its own at 108C but has to otherwise be controlled by the engine management system. Our B48 Motec System opens the thermostat at 80C. 
  • 11538635689 from a BMW N20 - this one has one less outlet port and should be used on racecars where no heater is used. Control is the same as the above thermostat. 

You can not use this with a B48 running stock engine management. The stock thermostat is called a Heat Management Module and uses a ball valve controlled by two H-Bridge outputs with its position correlated by a SENT signal. Additionally it has a second valve that closes on cold startup to prevent coolant from flowing through the block to heat everything up faster for better emissions.
